Those of you who were at Burning Man 2022 probably remember how rough it was. Hot. Dusty. Even for Burners like me, who thought 15 years of Burning Man experience would somehow keep me safe.
The theme for 2022 was "Waking Dreams," and I was excited to create & walk away with a 'dream journal' of the event!
(Live-painting art structure "Disturb My Slumber" the day before it burned)
I painted a lot of Burners this year. I have been painting Burners at every Burn since 2017, and it's so much fun -- I get to closely observe their mode of expression: What outfits do they wear? What actions are they doing? What's their body language? Burners are some of the most creative people that exist.

(Live-painting people throughout the Burn, without them posing!)
Of course, I loved painting all the different art structures at the Burn. My focus is on painting real people because the "Burners make the Burn," though the large artworks were like the architecture within the city.
(painting the Man during mid-week, very late at night!)
(Live-painting the Fear Beast, one of my favorite art installations at BM 2022)
(Live-painting the Empyrean Temple Burn)
And similarly to recent year's Soul Journals, I invite different Burners to hold the original book in their hands, take photos of their hands, and include it as part of the final project. This artistic decision connects the art to the people, time, and place!!!
(Creator of El Pupo Magnifico holding the book and the painting I did of the art car! I forgot his name, if you know it please contact me)
